His parents first met in the 1980s, but at the time, his father was still married to his first wife, Cindy Costner. 

Kevin and Cindy got divorced in 1994 after 16 years of marriage. 

It was after that Kevin and Christine met for the second time at a golf course while Kevin was preparing for his 1996 film, Tin Cup.

His parents are on the verge of divorce after two decades of marriage. His mother filed for divorce in June 2023. 

Kevin's rep confirmed in a statement that said, 

"It's with great sadness that the circumstances beyond his control have transpired, which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage."

The soon-to-be ex-couple is going through a messy legal battle over a divorce settlement. They have also been fighting over their living situation. 

Christine alleged Kevin of kicking her and their children out of the house frequently, while Kevin claimed that her refusal to move out of the house was leaving him homeless. 

As per the prenuptial agreement, she would have 30 days after filing for divorce to leave the home, but despite that, she had been residing at home. 

In court documents obtained by the insider, Kevin had made it clear that when he and Christine began discussing marriage in 2003, he made it clear that he would not marry again without clarity that his separate property residences would remain his to live in no matter what happened in their marriage.

In the document, it was also stated that following his separation from his first wife, he found himself without a home base and unable to live in his own home.

Kevin argued for her to be out by July 13 over her request for an August 31 deadline to move out.
