Bernard, also known as Bernard Jean Etienne Arnault, is a French Businessman, Investor, and Art Collector who was born in Roubaix, France. 

He is popularly known as the founder, chairman, and CEO of the world’s largest luxury goods company, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. 

He was born to Marie-Josephe Savinel, a pianist, and Jean Leon Arnault, a manufacturer.

STARTING OF BERNARD’S CAREER

In 1971, he began his career by working at Ferret-Savinel. After a few years, he was promoted to be president of the company. 

He gained the position from 1978 to 1984. In 1984, the French government was willing to find someone to take over the Boussac Saint-Freres empire, a textile and retail Conglomerate that owned Christian Dior. 

Later on, a Senior Partner of Lazard Freres, Antoine Bernheim, helped Bernard to acquire the Financiere Agache, which was a luxury goods company and became the CEO. 

Then, he took full control over Boussac Saint-Freres after winning the whole company in a bidding war. 

He laid off 9000 workers in two years after he bought Boussac Saint-Freres, and he was named “The Terminator.” 

The company gained profit by earning $112 million and generated a revenue of $1.9 Billion. 

CO-FOUNDER OF LVMH 

He started working with Alain Chevalier, who was the CEO of Moet Hennessy, and Henry Racamier, who was the President of Louis Vuitton. 

Later on, he had an idea to form LVMH with them in 1987. After it was established and he took the leadership, he planned to develop the company extraordinarily. 

Just as he thought about development, the Annual Sales and profit rose by five times, making the market value of LVMH increase by 15 times in just eleven years. 

In 1988, he sponsored Christian Lacroix, a French fashion designer, to advertise the Company’s luxury clothing line. And the rest is history.

PERSONAL LIFE 

On April 7, 1973, Anne Dewavrin married Bernard Arnault. Bernard had just completed his engineering school, and both of them were in their early twenties. 

They went on to share two children together, whom they named Delphine and Antoine. 

Unfortunately, they separated in 1990 after spending 17 years of their lives together. The reason for their divorce is still unknown. 

Both Anne and Bernard have moved on with their lives.

In 1991, Bernard married Helene Mercier, A Canadian Expert Pianist. They share three sons, Alexandre, Frederic, and Jean. 

They have been married for more than three decades.

Bettencourt’s former Bookkeeper, Claire Thibout, said that Patrice asked her to withdraw money from Liliane’s Bank account in order to support the presidential campaign of Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. 

For that, he was sentenced to 30 months of prison with a fine of $267915 and to pay around $12859920 to Liliane. 

After five years, the two parties came to an agreement and settled their problem.
