He was born in Wandsworth, London, England, at Putney Hospital to his mother, Winifred June Collins, and father, Greville Philip Austins Collins. 

His father was an insurance agent for London Assurance, and his mother worked for a toy shop and later became a booking agent.

They first met each other when they were just 11 years old while attending drama class. 

They didn't start their romantic relationship as soon as they met as they were both too young to date.

Their relationship came to an end when Andrea left for Vancouver with her parents.

They later reunited in 1974 when he performed in Vancouver for his band. They soon began dating.

REASON FOR DIVORCE

Many people speculated that the couple got divorced due to an affair. 

It was revealed by Andrea in an interview in 2015 that when Phil became the lead singer of Genesis, his entire focus shifted from family to his career.

Drummers don't get much attention, so when he was just doing that, he could be a low-key guy, but once he became a singer, he became much more focused on the band and his career. His drive and ambition became his no.1 priority, and his ego started to grow.

She also said that he left her at the hospital for an extensive world tour just two days after she gave birth to their son. 

She even told him that she wouldn't survive and knew it would destroy their marriage. 

She also revealed that her son had to be admitted to the hospital for two weeks as a result of formula allergy, but Phil had no empathy at all for her situation. 

She felt like a single parent. Andrea became lonely and more and more miserable with Phil's absence, and the couple started arguing more. 

One day, Phil even shouted at Andrea over the phone in front of their children.

Andrea had enough and had an affair with a man who helped her friend renovate a house.

In 2006, they divorced, with Collins paying $25 million to Cevey to settle the divorce.
